Becoming a veterinarian was the only real profession I can remember wanting to follow. I have been around horses from the age of five, and truly have a love of animals. Starting at age fourteen, I spent many days travelling on farm calls with a large animal veterinarian. After graduating from the Ontario Veterinary College, I worked in mixed animal practices in Listowel and Cambridge, Ontario prior to opening the Grand River Veterinary Hospital, in January of 1995. Living and working in Caledonia for the past thirteen years has given me the opportunity to develop many longterm relationships with clients. I have seen their pets grow from puppies and kittens into pet senior citizens; I have seen their families grow from children to adults; I have seen three generations of horses on several farms, and I have seen clients compete and win in their respective disciplines against the best competitors in the world.
Since I graduated, the level of care we are able to provide our patients has changed dramatically. One certainly can never stop learning in this profession if one is to provide the level of care we expect to give our patients and clients. Having had the opportunity to learn and practice Animal Chiropractic is one example of a service I never imagined providing clients at the time I graduated. Veterinary medicine truly is a challenging and rewarding profession.
I currently live just outside of Caledonia, with our two dogs: Rustie and Waggie, and their loving feline companions, Princess and Oreo. Having been raised with horses, I currently miss not having an equine companion, but I am hopeful that in the near future, circumstances will allow us to aquire a horse or two. For now, I am fortunate that my love of horses is satisfied by my chosen profession. |
